Academician, Dr. hab. Niko Javakhishvili Joins Geocase

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Hab. Niko Javakhishvili has joined our esteemed team of experts at Geocase. 


Dr. hab. Javakhishvili's expertise will be concentrated on the Caucasus and Baltic studies. With extensive knowledge of the past and contemporary history of the abovementioned countries, Dr. hab. Javakhishvili brings a wealth of knowledge and insights that will greatly contribute to our think tank's work in this area.


Dr. Hab. Javakhishvili has been delivering lectures at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University since 1997. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Institute of History of Georgia at the Faculty of Humanities of the same university (since 2009) and a member of the University Senate (since 2022), also, a Chief Research Fellow at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at the Ivane Javakhishvili Institute of History and Ethnology (since 2006), and the Member of the Council of Scholars at the same university; Besides, he was a Member of the Permanent Commission on Heraldry at the State Heraldic Council under the Parliament of Georgia (2008-2021), Member of the commission of the National Bank of Georgia to develop the appearance of the modern Georgian national currency (both banknotes and coins), as well as commemorative coins (2005-2009); Member of the Council for Accreditation of Educational Programs of Higher and Secondary Educational Institutions of Georgia (2018-2019), Member of the Academic Council of the Institute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Kaunas) (since 2012), Honorary Member of the Latvian Society of Georgia "Ave Sol!" (since 2015), Member of the editorial board and the Academic Council of some scientific collections published in Georgia and abroad. As a specialist in the field of auxiliary historical disciplines (including phaleristics, bonistics, numismatics, genealogy, heraldry, vexillology, etc.), he is directly involved in the development of the state symbols of Georgia.


Dr. Hab. Niko Javakhishvili studies the issues of the history of Georgia, Caucasus, as well as the relationship of Ge¬orgia with different countries. He is the author of 264 scientific papers, including 22 books and 242 articles published in Georgian, English, German, Russian, Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Armenian, Turkish and Arabic languages. 


For his outstanding contribution to the deepening of cooperation between research and higher pedagogical centers of Georgia and the Baltic countries, he has been awarded by numerous academic institutions of the Baltic States with the Certificates of Honor and honorific titles. The Latvian Academy of Sciences awarded him the title of Honorary Doctor (2014), and he was elected as a Foreign Member (academician) by the same Academy (2022).
