Biography

Henrik S. Werenskiold is the founder and editor-in-chief of Geopolitika.no, a Norwegian-language journal focused on international affairs and geopolitics. While locally based, Geopolitika.no boasts an international network and partnerships, including GeoCase. Since its founding on March 1, 2024, the journal has quickly become an influential voice in geopolitics, with articles published not only in Norway but also in France and across Eastern Europe.

Based in Oslo but with extensive international experience, Werenskiold has a long-standing career in foreign affairs and geopolitical journalism. He began as a foreign affairs journalist and commentator, later became a foreign affairs editor, and now serves as editor-in-chief. In addition to his journalism career, Werenskiold has significant experience in the think tank industry and has contributed to various academic works.

Werenskiold’s areas of interest are broad, with a particular focus on great power competition, Europe's role in global geopolitics, and political realism. He is especially interested in how these concepts relate to security challenges in Europe’s neighboring regions, including the growing threats of terrorism, migration, and the increased use of force as a tool in international relations.

Werenskiold holds two bachelor’s degrees—one in International Business Administration and the other in International Affairs—from the American University of Paris. He also earned a master’s degree in Political Economy from BI Norwegian Business School. He is fluent in Norwegian, English, French, and Spanish, and has a good command of Portuguese and intermediate proficiency in Classical Arabic (Fusha).
