Biography

Ms. Liana Jervalidze has worked as an adviser to the President of Georgia on regional energy and transport security and connectivity (Caspian and Black Sea regions) from 1 October 2020 until 15 October 2023. In her capacity as an adviser she:

•    participated in preparing the visits of the President of Georgia, prepared two weekly reports on the developments in the regional energy sector and transport connectivity (in Georgia and the Caspian and Black Sea Regions), 

•    acted as a liaison between the office of the President on one hand and the Parliament Economic Committee, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and other energy and transport-related institutions on the other hand; 

•    on behalf of the office of the President of Georgia participated in working groups engaged in drafting the National Energy and Climate Action Plan, the Hydrogen Policy Action Plan and the Climate Action Plan 2030, she also participated in a number of energy and transport conferences in Tbilisi, Batumi, Poti, Bucharest, Ashgabat, etc.

•    organized and directed the Caspian and Black Sea Connectivity panel at the Women’s Second Forum held on 1 July 2023;

Before joining the office of the President of Georgia she had been a researcher/analyst at the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation. She specializes in Georgia’s gas supply security and the development of the Southern Gas and Commodities Corridor. She is an alumna of the Kennan Institute of Advanced Russian Studies in Washington DC.  and the Reading University Business School Eurasia Studies Project in the UK.  

Liana Jervalidze has worked extensively on Georgia’s energy security (with a focus on gas supply security), regional aspects of energy security and transit, Georgia’s positioning in negotiations on full membership to the Energy Community, and the Southern Gas Corridor's development. She participated as an independent energy policy analyst in energy-related forums dedicated to the Southern Gas and Commodities Corridor and regional development in Almaty, Ashgabat, Baku, Istanbul, Berlin, Frankfurt, Katowice, London, Vienna and Vilnius.

From 2009-2010, Ms. Jervalidze worked as the Director of the Caucasus Media, Energy, and Environment Project at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs funded by the Norwegian Atlantic Committee. In 2007-2008 she worked as an expert on “Energy Policy Reforms and Implementation” funded by BP and developed by Transparency International in Georgia. 

From July to December 2006, she worked as a senior energy analyst with Core International Georgia (a USAID-funded project). She has worked on the business plan for a merged Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation.  

From 1993 to 2005 Ms. Jervalidze worked with several Georgian and foreign institutions including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, USAID contractors (OSC and IRIS), and research centres working on political, economic, and environmental aspects of the regional energy policy and development: The Caspian Area Energy Studies Project and Partnership for Social Initiatives PSI. She acted as an advisor to the international commercial entity “Azerbaijan-Georgia Transport and Development Co”– based in Baku.

She made presentations on political, economic, and environmental aspects of regional energy policy and transit routes at several international and regional conferences held in Tbilisi, Baku, Brussels, Istanbul, London, Strasbourg, and Washington. She is the author of analytical articles published in Georgian and English languages. 

Currently, she serves as a member of the Hydrogen Committee at the Georgian Energy Development Fund (GEDF) and is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Sectoral Economy Committee of the Parliament.

Ms. Jervalidze is fluent in Georgian, Russian, English, and French, and speaks some Turkish.
